Food DJ Studio is a one-person studio based in California, with a small circle of collaborators in art, music, and localization who help bring the game to life.Why "Food DJ"?
The name came from my husband. Cooking has always been an important expression of warmth and love for me, and one that I learned about with my sisters and parents. I guess that's why I have a habit of vividly remembering the food and drinks in my life —like a boba drink we tried to recreate during lockdown, or a soup a friend made when I was really sick, or a cherry pie my sister baked for Thanksgiving a few years back— and recreating or remixing them at home until they become something new, but comfortingly nostalgic."You're basically a DJ," he said. "But with food." It stuck. 🐣
(For the record: I have zero music skills. All remixes are strictly in the kitchen.)
That habit of holding onto a memory through what you make with your hands is more or less what this studio exists to explore. By training I'm an engineer, but by lifelong compulsion, a pixel artist. This game is where the two finally meet.
I'm making my first game (title reveal coming this summer) on a simple belief: a shared drink or meal is one of the gentlest ways we take care of each other. It's a cozy game on the surface and an honest one underneath, exploring themes of memory and family, about grief and finding your footing, and about what it means to be the steady presence someone else needs while they find theirs.
